Clove Essential Oil for Healing & Household Uses

Updated: Mar 1, 2023

Clove essential oil, also called clove bud essential oil l is derived from the dried flower buds of the fragrant evergreen clove tree. It has many uses, both healing and household, that are responsible for the oil’s long standing popularity. Clove essential oil has been used for many thousands of years in both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicinal healing practices. It has naturally strong antiseptic and analgesic qualities that are purported to help with pain caused by arthritis, toothache, headaches and earaches.

Clove essential oil can promote healing and can help to provide relief to wounds, bites, stings and cuts. To promote healing, apply clove essential oil directly to the area with a cotton ball or swab. The oil can also be diluted with a carrier oil, such as almond or jojoba oil, to reduce the intensity of its fragrance and medicinal properties. In addition, a warm compress can be made with clove essential oil and placed directly on the affected area to aid in healing. The antiseptic properties of the oil will help to prevent infections.

Clove essential oil can also be used in massage. It has mild warming properties that help to relax the body and its antiseptic qualities help to prevent skin infections. Clove essential oil can also be used in aromatherapy. Its strong fragrance has both calming and uplifting effects. Clove essential oil can be diffused in the air or blended with other oils to create a custom blended scent.

Clove essential oil is also effective in cleaning and disinfecting. It can be used to rid surfaces of bacteria and mold, making it beneficial for kitchen and bathroom cleanliness. To create a natural cleaning solution, mix equal parts of water and white vinegar with several drops of clove essential oil. This can be put in a spray bottle and used as a natural all-purpose cleaner throughout the household.

Clove essential oil is an effective insect repellent. To create your own natural bug repellant, combine several drops of clove essential oil with a carrier oil and rub it on the skin to protect them against mosquitoes, fleas and ticks. Additionally, a few drops of clove essential oil on cotton balls placed in areas where pests are active can effectively repel insects.

Clove essential oil is revered for its sweet woody aroma and its healing qualities. It has a long history of medicinal and household uses that make it a valuable addition to any natural health regimen. However, it is important to be aware of the potency of this oil before using it topically, internally or in aromatherapy. Dilution with a carrier oil is essential both to prevent irritation to the skin and to reduce the intensity of its fragrance. Additionally, pregnant women and children should also avoid using it. Despite these precautions, clove essential oil is a beneficial oil that can be used to promote healing, clean and disinfect and to repel pests in the home.
